From that first night raising €7,000, the Sleep Out has since generated almost €2 million for COPE Galway's homeless services, funding practical care and compassionate support for individuals and families when they need it most.
How it all began - The History of the COPE Galway Sleep Out
The COPE Galway Business Leaders’ Sleep Out began in 2012, when a small group of Galway business leaders came together in response to the growing homelessness crisis in the city.
Event founder, Hannah Kiely, recalls how she was moved by the increasing number of people sleeping rough and felt compelled to act. What started as a grassroots initiative has grown into a powerful annual event that raises awareness and builds solidarity across the Galway business community.
What is so profound about taking part in the Sleep Out is the understanding that develops when you are out on the street, seeing the situation first-hand and the coming together of people who want to make a difference. The fact that many have taken part more than once demonstrates the uniqueness of this fundraising event.
